Chelsea tried to sign Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge in the last transfer window.

Just before the market closed, Chelsea made a €30m (£26m) bid for Antonio Nusa, according to Nieuwsblad.

And now, the winger has told HLN that he could not believe the size of the Blues’ offer for him.

Last season, Nusa made 26 appearances in the Belgian Pro League and managed just the sole goal. However, it is clear that Chelsea view him as a player with a lot of potential.

Antonio Nusa shocked by Chelsea’s bid

Nusa has admitted that he was surprised that Chelsea made such a big offer for him.

On the Blues’ interest, the Norwegian said: “We had a match, Osasuna at home I think. I knew about their interest, but I was not informed about the offer. After the match I turned on my phone and the messages kept coming. The news had leaked. I was shocked, but we had actually decided much earlier to stay in Bruges anyway.

“It surprised me too. I thought, ‘Wow, that’s a lot of money.’ However, we had known for some time what we would do, so it didn’t cause me much stress. You think about it, but all in all I remained calm.”

Will Chelsea make a fresh move for Antonio Nusa?

It is more than possible. At 18, Nusa obviously fits the club’s transfer policy.

Chelsea have been signing a lot of young players for the future since being taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, which includes the likes of Andrey Santos and Cesare Casadei.

With Nusa still the profile of footballer they have been going after, then, it would not be a shock to see them eventually land the Norway international.

It is likely that some Chelsea fans, though, are not too fussed about who the club signs for the future. Plenty of supporters are going to want additions who can come in and make an impact now.

Sitting in 10th, Mauricio Pochettino‘s side need to climb the table, while they also have the chance to win two domestic cups this season, remaining in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
