Ally McCoist thinks Chelsea will be making a big mistake if they sell Mason Mount this summer.

There’s a lot of transfer rumours in the media right now that points towards Mason Mount, 24, leaving Stamford Bridge in the upcoming window.

90min claimed last week that Mount has agreed personal terms with Manchester United ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford.

They added that Chelsea have told the player he’ll be sold this summer if he doesn’t agree to a contract extension on a deal that expires in a year.

United do still need to agree a transfer fee with the Blues before signing the attacking midfielder, though.

TalkSPORT pundit McCoist has explained why he would definitely keep Mount if he were in Chelsea’s shoes.

“I don’t care if you’re Chelsea; I don’t care what team you are; it’s important to have players that have a relationship with the club. It’s not the be-all and end-all, but it’s important to have that,” McCoist told talkSPORT.

“I wouldn’t be letting Mason Mount go based on ability, first and foremost, and I certainly wouldn’t be letting him go in respect of what he means to the supporters and how he feels about the club.”

We want to see as many as possible of Chelsea’s academy graduates grow into first-team stars at Stamford Bridge, something that Mount has definitely done in the last few seasons. Thankfully, he’s not the only youngster with deep Chelsea connections.

Blues full-back Reece James, who came through the system at Cobham, should be a talisman in the side for years to come if everything goes to plan. Meanwhile, a lot of Chelsea supporters are excited to see if young centre-back Levi Colwill is ready for a first-team breakthrough next year after a good loan at Brighton.

It will feel like a big blow if Mount does wave goodbye this summer, but there’s certainly others in the group that have the core Chelsea values.
