ESPN pundit Janusz Michallik has sent Manchester United a warning about signing former Chelsea forward Timo Werner.

Timo Werner is being linked with a move to Manchester United, with Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claiming that the Red Devils have already made an enquiry about the RB Leipzig star.

However, Janusz Michallik, speaking on ESPN, has his doubts about Werner after his struggles at Leipzig and spell at Chelsea.

The Blues sold the 27-year-old to Leipzig last summer in a £25.3m deal (Sky Sports) while Thomas Tuchel was still at the club. As well as United, he has also been linked to Real Madrid.

Janusz Michallik not confident about Timo Werner succeeding in the Premier League

With his first stint in the Premier League not going to plan, Michallik is not convinced that Werner would be a success at United.

Discussing his potential return to England on ESPN, the former USA international said: “I saw a rumour of him going to Real Madrid. I mean, look, he needs to nail down a starting position at Leipzig. He hasn’t been playing; he hasn’t been scoring. He’s had some injuries as well.

“I think at this stage, having already played in the Premier League, everybody deserves a second chance and you know what? Maybe, maybe he’d be better. But I wouldn’t take a chance on that.”

Timo Werner’s spell at Chelsea not putting clubs off

Werner was able to win the Champions League at Chelsea, as well as the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Even so, there is no denying that things did not go well for him during his time at Stamford Bridge. It is why Tuchel was happy to let the Germany international go in exchange for Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

In total, Werner scored just 23 goals in 89 appearances for Chelsea. Nevertheless, that does not look to have stopped Premier League clubs from registering an interest in him.

According to 90min, Fulham, Crystal Palace and West Ham United all have Werner on their radar, so United could face a bit of competition if they do want to sign him in January.

As for Chelsea, it is disappointing that Werner could not replicate the form he showed during his first spell at Leipzig in west London. How Mauricio Pochettino‘s side could do with a goalscorer like that version of Werner right now.
