Ian Wright claims Chelsea will be worried about potentially missing out on a Premier League top-four finish this season amid Liverpool’s recent resurgence.
Despite the 5-2 defeat to West Brom on Saturday, the Blues get to keep their top-four spot, at least for now, after Tottenham Hotspur failed to win at Newcastle United.
This could change as early as Monday, however, if West Ham win their away game against Wolves.
On paper, both West Ham (one game in hand) and Everton (two games in hand) could climb above Chelsea if they win their respective games in hand.
Arsenal icon Wright, however, believes the biggest threat to Chelsea’s top four hopes would be Liverpool.
After a catastrophic run at the start of 2021, Jurgen Klopp’s men are now on a three-game winning streak in all competitions, including the convincing 3-0 win at Arsenal on Saturday.
“You know Liverpool are going to get better,” Wright told Premier League Productions.
“So you look at that fixture list and see what they [Liverpool] have got coming up, and teams will be worried about Liverpool and the way they are now.
“With this mini-league [among top four contenders] and the start of it, they have started to kick in.
“So it must be a worry now for those teams, because Chelsea, as we’ve seen, had a slip up, and we [also] saw Leicester slip up.
“Liverpool know what it takes to get in there and stay in.”
Chelsea will have plenty of big tests in their remaining eight league games.
They will still have to make the trip to West Ham, Manchester City, and Aston Villa and face Arsenal and Leicester City at Stamford Bridge in the next couple of months.
