Chelsea have enjoyed a strong start to the season, currently sitting third in the Premier League table.

Enzo Maresca has impressed greatly in his first season as a top-flight manager, and is getting a real tune out of a number of key players.

Moises Caicedo has wowed supporters with his performance levels, with him now on-par with Cole Palmer as the first name on the team sheet.

It has been more difficult for others to make their way into the side though. Christopher Nkunku is reportedly frustrated about his minutes at Stamford Bridge after seeing the majority of his starts come in the Conference League.

Ian Wright a big fan of ‘ruthless’ Enzo Maresca

The manager has shown a strong backbone when it has come to some big decisions to make this season.

This has included deciding that former club-record signing Enzo Fernandez should spend time on the bench, something Ian Wright has stated he has been a big fan of when judging Maresca.

He said to Stick to Football: “They are exciting. It’s too much to ask for them now but I do like the way the manager has blasted people out. He’s gone, bam, ruthless. This is what I am doing, I’m going with this and you are starting to see it, especially with Caicedo and Lavia in midfield. The front four look like they could go, it’s just that defence.”

Maresca froze out Raheem Sterling

One of the most notable calls Maresca made was actually on the opening day of the season when he left Raheem Sterling out of his matchday squad.

The player was clearly fuming as a result, and it was not long before he was on the move on loan to Arsenal.

Things have not exactly gone brilliantly there for the England international, although there was talk that the Gunners could look to make the deal for Sterling permanent.

Maresca will likely look to reintegrate Fernandez into his starting side too, after he proved his quality with three assists in 45 minutes in the Conference League.
