Some Chelsea fans were adamant that they wanted either Julian Nagelsmann or Ralph Hasenhuttl instead of Thomas Tuchel as their new manager.

Sky Sports announced that Tuchel would take over at Stamford Bridge after the sacking of Frank Lampard was confirmed.

The former Paris St Germain and Borussia Dortmund coach had been the frontrunner even since doubts over Lampard’s tenure began to circulate.

Despite their recent FA Cup victory over Luton Town, the Blues’ Premier League form has caused the most concern and ultimately Lampard’s demise.

Tuchel will have to transform a Chelsea side currently situated in eighth place with plenty of the summer signings still struggling to find their feet.

This news of his arrival was met with mixed reaction from supporters, many of whom wanting an entirely different name in the dugout.

RB Leipzig’s Nagelsmann was the main name on their wishlist. The 33-year-old has transformed his team into genuine challengers for the Bundesliga and consistent Champions League entertainers.

However, it was already confirmed by Sky Sports that Chelsea would have to wait if they wanted Nagelsmann, a luxury they cannot really afford.

Another coach that social media turned to was 53-year-old Ralph Hasenhuttl. The Southampton boss has done a remarkable job down on the coast by transforming them into genuine contenders for European football.

It seems unlikely that either will be drawn to London just yet as they continue to embark on their own impressive projects.

Both have German connections which makes them ideal candidates for the job. Nagelsmann is a native and Hasenhuttl played and coached there for 20 years.

But it seems like it is Tuchel who has won the race to become Chelsea’s main man.

Personally, I would have favoured Hasenhuttl over Tuchel. The Austrian has lived through the demands of English football, not to mention being a manager under pressure.

He has embedded youngsters into his system, whilst also ensuring an attractive and efficient way to play against opponents.

Tuchel is the flashy choice because of his prior appointments and I hope for his sake he can convert Chelsea back to being a world-class outfit.
