Jason Cundy has made his feelings known about the Club World Cup amidst Chelsea’s attempt to win the tournament.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Blues midfielder admitted he’d rather claim cup success in England than the continental competition.
Club World Cup curiosity
The Club World Cup certainly divides opinion.
For those excluded from the format, it is probably seen as extra baggage amongst a fixture schedule that seriously doesn’t need any additional weight.
Yet, the teams competing for the trophy share a different view.

Especially for sides hailing from divisions outside of Europe.
They are given the opportunity to challenge themselves against the Champions League holders, whilst also grabbing the attention of a global audience.
Tuchel wants the lot
Whilst it means a great deal to the clubs from Saudi Arabia or South America, the Premier League’s elite historically do not take the event lightly either.
According to the Evening Standard, Thomas Tuchel has told his assistant coach Arno Michels not to return to Stamford Bridge without the trophy.
Tuchel is not currently with the squad as he continues to isolate after a positive covid test.
Due to the league title virtually being out of reach, Chelsea’s manager will want to obtain every bit of silverware he can get his hands on.

Cundy curses the CWC
Liverpool shared Tuchel’s view of Club World Cup supremacy back in 2019, where they forfeited a League Cup tie against Aston Villa to focus on their excursions in Qatar.
Had Cundy been in charge of the Reds, however, he would’ve prioritised the English trophy instead.
“It’s (Club World Cup) a bit of a gloried Super Cup, Community Shield type of thing. When you win: ‘Oh, we are the best club in the world’. No, you’re not. That’s not how it works,” he said.
“Liverpool placed a lot of importance on it last year (2019) because they don’t win many trophies. That’s the truth. They sacrificed the League Cup.

“I’d rather win the League Cup than the Club World Cup.
“Once you’re in it you want to win it, it’s a trophy, you want to take it. But, I personally, think it’s a bit of an annoyance.”
Cundy might not be singing the same tune if Chelsea win the prize on Saturday, plus the Carabao Cup as well next month.
