‘If he’s really ambitious’… Chris Sutton suggests 25-year-old should join Arsenal rather than Chelsea

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen would be better off joining Arsenal than Chelsea amid lots of transfer speculation about his future.

That is according to BBC pundit Chris Sutton.

Victor Osimhen, 25, is linked with a move away from Naples in 2024.

Speaking via ESPN last week, Napoli owner and president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed that Osimhen will join Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain or a Premier League club at the end of the season.

There’s been frequent transfer rumours between the centre-forward and Chelsea.

Now, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports via X that Osimhen has chosen to join Chelsea in the summer.

Meanwhile, journalist Fabrizio Romano recently told CaughtOffside to keep an eye on potential buyers Arsenal in the Osimhen transfer race.

When discussing Osimhen on the BBC’s Monday Night Club, Sutton said: “Is he better than what Arsenal have got? Is he better than what Chelsea have got? Absolutely!

“Do we think that Arsenal are going to push more than Chelsea in the next couple of seasons? Probably, but Chelsea are a bit of a slow burner. They are getting a little bit better Chelsea. It’s difficult to see how this one will pan out. But Arsenal are getting desperate for a No 9.

“… Certainly with Nicolas Jackson, Osimhen is a massive upgrade. Nkunku can’t get himself fit and you feel for Pochettino with that one. They are interesting Chelsea because it’s not totally out of the realms of possibility that all of a sudden next season they hit the ground running and really push because they do have some good players.

“But if he’s (Osimhen) really ambitious at this moment in time, you wouldn’t touch Chelsea ahead of Arsenal.”

Of course, we want to see Osimhen end up joining the blue side of London.

The centre-forward has had a bit of a stop-start this campaign at Napoli, but he’s still managed eight goals in 18 matches. He’s currently away representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, too.

Osimhen certainly put his name on the map as one of the world’s best young No 9s by scoring 31 goals across all competitions last season for Napoli.

We’re pretty confident he would elevate the Chelsea attack at Stamford Bridge, but we’ll wait and see if the Blues win this transfer pursuit.
