Martin Keown has predicted that Chelsea boss Graham Potter is going to select a back three in the upcoming fixture against Arsenal.

Chelsea entertain rivals Arsenal tomorrow afternoon at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, which feels a really important game for both sides for different reasons.

The Blues, who sit sixth in the league, desperately need a result to try climb the divisions standings. There’s no doubt Graham Potter’s side have question marks against them after losing heavily to Brighton last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have surprised many this season to sit top of the league table at the beginning of November. Mikel Areta’s team look the real package, but many are waiting for them to slip up and revert to type.

Chelsea back three

Pundit Keown has tried to get into the mind of Potter, something which has been very difficult since the Englishman became Chelsea’s head coach a couple of months ago.

The Blues boss has tried out so many different systems and personnel during a packed schedule, so predicting what he’s going to do on a match day is a nightmare.

Keown believes Potter is going to use a formation that includes a back three when making his team selection at home to Arsenal.

“I’m a big fan of Graham Potter and his tactics. I’m trying to fathom out what he will do in this game [against Arsenal]. I’m pretty certain he’s going to play a back three,” Keown told talkSPORT (11:38am, 4 November).

Chelsea impressed and secured a win against Dinamo Zagreb in midweek using a back four system.

Elsewhere, they deployed a back three in the recent loss to Brighton.

In our view, Potter is going to go with the extra defender against the league leaders and look to be strong at the back.

It could be a back three of Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly at centre-back. They could be flanked by Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Marc Cucurella as the wing-backs, too.
