Trevoh Chalobah broke his Premier League duck for Chelsea in near-perfect fashion and the statistics were there to prove it.

Just days after making his senior Blues debut in the Super Cup final, Thomas Tuchel threw the 22-year-old back in at the deep end against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

He accepted the challenge like a duck taking to water.

Rather than struggling to keep afloat, the Chelsea academy product powerfully swam past the Palace attackers.

Not once did he look out of place in front of a full Stamford Bridge crowd.

Chalobah’s afternoon reached its climax when he lined up a shot from 25 yards, urged on by the home crowd, which eventually fizzled into the bottom corner.

It was a moment of pure elation for the versatile defender, who simply sank onto his knees in a state of overriding joy after scoring his maiden senior goal for his boyhood club.

But if netting the third in your side’s 3-0 victory wasn’t enough, the new Chelsea no.14 also provided some notable numbers to signify his standout display.

According to Statman Dave, Chalobah made more passes into the final third (18) versus Palace than any player across the seven league games on the same day.

WhoScored.com also helped to epitomise the young Englishmen’s excellent performance on the weekend.

They had him down for having 91 touches (fourth highest for Chelsea), a 92.8% pass completion rate and making a pair of interceptions and clearances each.

All in a day’s work.
