Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi insists that Chelsea target Moises Caicedo is good enough to be playing Champions Leauge football.

Caicedo, 21, is a talented young midfielder impressing in Brighton colours this season.

According to The Mirror back in October, Chelsea and Newcastle have both targeted moves to sign the Ecuador international. It could cost £85million for Brighton to let him leave the Amex Stadium, though.

Sky Sports recently claimed that De Zerbi’s side don’t want to sell Caicdeo in next month’s January window amid interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

De Zerbi has hailed Caicedo as one of the really talented Brighton players capable of shining on the Champions League stage.

“Moises Caicedo, [Alexis] Mac Allister, [Leandro] Trossard are playing very, very well now,” De Zerbi said, as quoted by The Argus.

“But we are ready to find other players.

“Maybe not in January, maybe not in the next summer but in the future, Mac Allister, Moises, Trossard, [Kaoru] Mitoma, I think they are able to change level.

“Play in Champions League and other competitions. Europa League, Champions League.”

Chelsea should definitely keep a close eye on Caicedo, who’s a player that Graham Potter knows well after working with him.

The defensive midfielder has enhanced his reputation massively in the last few months. First of all, he’s been one of the main driving forces behind Brighton’s excellent opening half of the Premier League season. He stood out during Ecuador’s games at the World Cup, too.

The young all-action midfielder definitely has the attributes to succeed at a Premier League side, but how he performs in the next few months could be key in his development.
