Today’s performance from Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy ended up being in vein during the defeat to Manchester City – but some opposition fans on Twitter couldn’t help praise him.

Chelsea suffered a 1-0 loss at Stamford Bridge during Saturday’s Premier League fixture against reigning champions Man City.

Gabriel Jesus scored the winner for the visitors early in the second half, which was a result of their constant pressure with the way they keep possession.

Fortunately, the Blues kept the scoreline down to just a one-goal deficit.

Chelsea shot-stopper Mendy was in inspired form this weekend, albeit he couldn’t be blamed for conceding a deflected goal from Jesus.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper denied Phil Foden one-on-one with a save that saw him spread himself big. Also, he made a sensational fingertip save to deny a curled effort from Jack Grealish that looked destined for the bottom corner.

He missed the club’s last two games through injury, but showed why he’s so important on his return to the Blues XI.

Edouard Mendy gets respect he deserves

Even a selection of Man City supporters on social media couldn’t help applaud the display of Mendy against them.

The Senegal international has been a thorn in their side before, so they must be delighted to leave the Bridge with three points.

If you consider Chelsea paid just £22million for the goalkeeper last year from Rennes, he’s got to go down as one of the biggest bargains in recent times.

He’s a commanding presence that collected numerous set-pieces on Saturday, plus showed great agility with some of his saves.
