Chelsea supporters couldn’t help but compliment Andreas Christensen again after he put in another solid performance in the Chelsea backline yesterday.

Thomas Tuchel’s terrific run continued as Blues boss continued after his side comfortably defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Timo Werner scored his first Premier League goal for 15 games. Kepa Arrizbalaga was handed his first league start since October. And Chelsea moved into the top four for the first time since December.

There were so many standout headlines from the match but Blues fans wanted to praise their great Dane for a quietly dominant display.

Christensen is enjoying his longest run in the side all season having been put out to cold by Frank Lampard.

His resurgence under Tuchel did come more out of chance than on merit.

Thiago Silva’s injury sustained at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month forced Chelsea’s coach to bring Christensen back into the fold.

He has certainly grabbed it with both hands and was assured once more in face of an admittedly limp Newcastle outfit.

The 24-year-old managed a passing accuracy of 94.4% and won four of his aerial duels (WhoScored.com), indicating that he can mix the intricate with the ugly when required.

Silva’s recovery date is not yet confirmed but Chelsea shouldn’t fear too much if Christensen continues in his fine form.

The Chelsea Chronicle View

Werner scored. Kepa clean sheet. Chelsea top four. Christensen outstanding. I really don’t want to wake up from this lovely dream.

It’s a shame that Silva will probably walk straight back into the line-up, so let’s enjoy our Danish delight whilst he’s still running proceedings.
