Thiago Silva says his appreciation of former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel should not come as a shock to anyone.
Speaking to FIFA, Silva named the German as one of the managers he’s worked under that he respects most in the sport.
The Brazilian international enjoyed some of his best footballing years alongside Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.

Originally signed by Frank Lampard in 2020, the veteran defender did not truly display his greatness until the next man in the dugout was appointed.
Tuchel’s decision to deploy a back-three worked wonders for Chelsea as a whole, but also their ageing centre-back.
Silva shines again thanks to Tuchel
Silva was seemingly given a new lease of life as he headed towards his 40s, thanks to the extra defensive cushion provided by the new formation.
From people questioning his ability to cope with Premier League football, he soon reaffirmed his status as one of the modern greats in his position.
Although Silva’s undoubted quality ensured this rank, he owes a huge amount to Graham Potter’s predecessor.

“Experience brings you wisdom and knowledge, but without doubt learning from great players has only helped me grow and develop,” said Brazil’s World Cup captain.
“My admiration of (former Flamengo and Brazil centre-back) Juan is public knowledge, but I’ve had the opportunity to watch and play with other players such as (Alessandro) Nesta and (Paolo) Maldini.
“Likewise, my admiration for certain coaches, such as Carlo Ancelotti, Tite and Thomas Tuchel, is well known.”
Thiago Silva and Thomas Tuchel torn apart
Sadly, Silva and Tuchel’s relationship ended prematurely in September.
After just seven matches and only three losses into the current season, Todd Boehly decided to axe the manager in favour of Potter.

Initially, it appeared like a profitable move, with Chelsea remaining undefeated in nine games.
But it’s since proved a regrettable decision, thanks to three successive league defeats.
Even Silva is not looking at his shiny best in club colours anymore.
