Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has now claimed that he would not hire Frank Lampard to become his club’s next manager.

He told TalkSPORT that he does not believe people should be given jobs based on the names they have made for themselves in the game as a player.

Lampard’s second spell at Chelsea recently came to an end, with him being thrown into the deep end in terms of the position the club found themselves in.

Todd Boehly made the decision to sack Graham Potter as manager after just a few months in charge, with the club slipping into the bottom half of the table as a result of their poor form.

With the fixtures remaining extremely difficult on paper for Lampard’s side, they didn’t add many more points during his tenure.

MacAnthony would not hire Lampard

It was his second attempt at being Chelsea manager, with the first ending unceremoniously a few months after he led his side to a top four finish without being able to spend any money on signings.

These have been sandwiched by him spending time as Everton manager. After keeping them in the Premier League, he was fired earlier this season as they endured similarly poor form.

Live on TalkSPORT earlier, MacAnthony was asked if he would hire the now out-of-work manager as his club’s next permanent boss.

He said: “No. It irritates me, people who keep getting chances based on the name.”

It will be interesting to see if Lampard’s next job does come at a Premier League manager, with him now having three attempts at management in the top flight. His most successful era so far has arguably been at Derby County in the Champonship.
