Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile says one of his teammates made the Blackburn Rovers game last night such a comfortable experience for him.

It was the first match Benoit Badiashile has played in since he returned from injury, and it could not have gone any better for the centre-back, who managed to get his name on the scoresheet.

And now, speaking to Chelsea’s official club website after the game, he has shared his delight at being able to rekindle his central defensive partnership with Axel Disasi.

The two played with each other in France at AS Monaco, with Disasi sharing not too long ago that he spoke to Badiashile before deciding to join him in west London.

Benoit Badiashile enjoyed Axel Disasi reunion

Badiashile was happy to reunite with Disasi in defence and says playing alongside him in the 2-0 win against Blackburn was easy because of their history.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official club website after the game, the 22-year-old said: “It was so good because we know each other very well.

“It was easy for me to play alongside him because I did so for a long time [at Monaco]. He is a close friend so I am happy.”

Chelsea’s future centre-back pairing?

It is not impossible. Thiago Silva and Disasi, who joined Chelsea from Monaco in a £38.8m deal during the summer (Sky Sports), have been Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice centre-backs this season.

However, the Argentine has not had all of his options available, with Badiashile and Wesley Fofana both starting the campaign injured.

With the former fit again, he could easily come into the equation for Premier League games now, while it is also important to remember that Silva is 39 years of age and could leave Stamford Bridge in 2024 when his contract expires.

Considering all of the above, then, perhaps Badiashile and Disasi could become the main centre-back pairing, especially with Levi Colwill playing at left-back these days.

Hopefully Badiashile can now stay fit. While Blackburn will obviously not be the toughest opponents Chelsea face this season, the France international showed his worth in his side’s encounter with them last night.
