Sam Allardyce has claimed on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast that he is worried for Graham Potter after Chelsea signed Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues brought in the 22-year-old on deadline day after days of fierce negotiations with Benfica which took the deal to the wire.

The signing put the final touches on what was a sensational window for Chelsea. They spent big money addressing the issues that had cropped up in the opening part of the season.

This included the attack. Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix and Noni Madueke were all brought in with an eye to bring much-needed goals to Stamford Bridge.

Allardyce has hesitations over the biggest signing of them all though. He has claimed that they could be throwing Potter under the bus with a signing he believes the manager didn’t originally want.

Allardyce concerned over Fernandez

He said: “Probably the last one from Chelsea was the biggest of all. A British record. It just worries me. It worries me if it doesn’t work, what a commitment that is for eight years because obviously they haven’t shut that loop hole yet, so spread that payment over eight years and it’s 121 million Euros.

“It’s a huge risk for the club and particularly the manager because ehe’ll get the blame if it doesn’t work and I wouldn’t think it would be his choice. Not his number one. But that’s the way the top end is now, you’re not really the manager any more you’re just the coach and you accept these players.”

Potter will likely be turning to Fernandez to start for him tonight against Fulham, with injuries hitting the midfielders in the squad hard.

There will be no Denis Zakaria or Mateo Kovacic tomorrow, with Jorginho now playing his football across London with Arsenal.
