Ian Wright lauded how Thomas Tuchel has transformed Chelsea and managed to unlock prime N’Golo Kante, speaking on the Ringer FC podcast Wrighty’s House.
Simply skimming over the Blue’s recent results gives a strong indication of the excellent renovation job Tuchel is doing at Stamford Bridge.
They are 15 games unbeaten, the first in this run achieved whilst Frank Lampard was in charge.
Only twice have Chelsea conceded under the German coach, one being an own goal from Antonio Rudiger.
Delve deeper into the inner workings of Tuchel’s masterplan and the individual aspects are equally as impressive.
Players who looked lost under Lampard have now been found. Those who seemed out of shape have been remolded.
Wright was fascinated by this restoration, especially where Kante was concerned.
The former Arsenal striker said: “You can see progress with Chelsea. There’s a lot to admire about Chelsea. There’s a lot to admire about the players and the way they are taking on what he (Tuchel) wants.
“It’s great to see (N’Golo) Kante back doing what he does best. I feel that Chelsea are getting that forward quartet right and starting to absolutely tear up teams.
“Mason Mount is never going to drop; he is an eight out of ten.
“Then you’ve got N’Golo Kante playing the way what brought him to our attention and prominence.
“If these players start to really connect and they get the striker nicking those goals, Manchester City should be afraid.”
Tuchel re-implemented Kante into his most prosperous position; a protector of the defence within a central midfield partnership.
This worked so efficiently whilst the £144,231-a-week (Spotrac) Frenchman was at Leicester City and during his first season with Chelsea.
Other managers have tried to play him further forward in a three-man midfield, with less desirable outcomes.
Tuchel instantly reverted back to the tried and tested method. The rest is history.
