Thomas Tuchel emphasised that the number of games Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic have already played for Chelsea should not be understated.
Speaking to the 5th Stand, Tuchel credited the attacking trio for achieving so much in a relatively short space of time.
Age is just a number
All three are amongst the lower age bracket of the senior squad, but have seen more in their careers than most.
Mount (23) featured in a Champions League and European Championship final within the space of a few months.
He is two matches shy of 150 appearances for Chelsea, quite an incredible feat considering Frank Lampard only handed him his debut in 2019.
Pulisic (23) has a European winners’ medal hanging up somewhere at home as well, nestling not far away from his 45 international caps with the USA.
Havertz (22) scored the decisive goal against Manchester City last May, before netting a few more at the Euros.
The German also sealed the Club World Cup final from the penalty spot.
Each have progressed differently yet are all on the same track towards something special.
Tuchel talks about the magic three
“It’s incredible and there is no substitute for it,” said Tuchel in regards to the forward’s wealth of footballing knowledge.
“It’s the best and you can grow so much with these kind of experiences
“There are many ways to grow but this is really accelerating the process of their development.
“It’s good to see they are ready to take responsibility, that they are ready to step up
“It’s so good to have them at this age. They are far from having reached their top level.
“There is so much more to come and we are proud to have them.”
It must be scary for opponents to consider how much further Mount, Havertz and Pulisic can grow from their already flourished platform.
Premier League defences might have to cope with this trident for at least another decade.
There aren’t many front lines in the division that can boast such longevity.
Add to that the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi (21), Reece James (22), Trevoh Chalobah (22), Malang Sarr (23) and Ben Chilwell (25), Chelsea’s future really is in good hands.
