Alan Shearer claims he’s noticed Todd Boehly has been a lot quieter at Chelsea this season.

Blues co-owner Todd Boehly, 50, has been a very popular name in the media since the change of ownership at Stamford Bridge in May 2022.

The American businessman got stuck straight into the project by working in an interim role as the club’s sporting director, but he’s since stepped back from that position to a boardroom member.

Interestingly, The Daily Mail claimed last month that Chelsea’s staff and players have noted Boehly’s long absences from the club this season. Apparently, the co-owner always intended to step back to focus on other business interests after a hectic start to life in West London.

When discussing Chelsea’s struggles this season, Micah Richards said on The Rest Is Football podcast: “What is going on at Chelsea guys? Because we do all our analysis and we watch clip after clip and some days they look really good and then some days you are thinking they are weak at the back, conceding sloppy goals and then they are just not putting the ball on the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Alan Shearer is equally staggered by the performances of the Blues, who sit 10th in the league table. He added his observation about Chelsea’s co-owner, too.

Shearer told The Rest Is Fooball podcast: “Penny for the owners thoughts, Todd Boehly. I wonder what he is thinking. He has gone ever so quiet hasn’t he? It’s staggering.”

Todd Boehly has changed

There’s always been a certain chaos that comes when you mention Boehly and Chelsea, so we’ve enjoyed seeing him withdrawing himself from the limelight a bit.

We could definitely criticise certain decisions under Boehly’s watch at the start of this new ownership, but some of that hate fired towards him was a tad overboard.

Our hope now is that the Blues can stick together during tough periods as they try to reach a long-term vision. There’s certainly nothing wrong with altering plans as you learn on the job, though.
