Sky’s Chief Sports Reporter Chief Kaveh Solhekol delivered an update on the situation regarding Roman Abramovich’s possible sale of Chelsea.
Speaking live on air earlier today, Kaveh revealed that Abramovich has found it trickier to shift on the club than originally anticipated.
It’s all going wrong for Roman
The Russian businessman is reportedly attempting to find buyers for the Blues, as he anticipates facing sanctions from the government due to being connected with Vladimir Putin.
Seeing as Chelsea remains one of Abramovich’s biggest assets, freezing out the organisation would disable him from injecting cash into the project.
On Saturday, as a response to the war that continues to rage across Ukraine, Abramovich tried to hand over the keys of the kingdom to Chelsea’s foundation trustees.
However, members of the party have since met the proposal with some resistance, even reporting the owner to the Charity Commission.
Instead, he has seemingly turned to a more long-term solution in the form of wealthy tycoons or money-making moguls.
Hansjorg Wyss, a billionaire born in Switzerland, stepped forward to announce Abramovich had offered Chelsea to him and several others.
This offer apparently came with a price tag of £4 billion (Telegraph), a figure that seemingly hasn’t settled well with the potential punters.
Struggles for the Stamford Bridge owner
Despite Chelsea’s significant standing in the footballing landscape, their leader is clearly struggling to find a successor to his throne.
“He’s willing to listen to offers for the club,” said Solhekol on Abramovich’s situation.
“But, on Saturday, we saw him try to give up control of the club and hand it over to the Chelsea foundation trustees.
“That has proven much more difficult than he thought it was going to be.
“And I think selling the club in the current climate is going to be much more difficult than he maybe imagines it’s going to be.
“It’s very significant that a Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has come out and said that Roman Abramovich is basically desperate to sell the club.
“Selling Chelsea at the moment is going to be just as complicated as trying to hand over control of the club to the Chelsea trustees.”
There is no doubt the Blues will find a buyer before too long, but probably not at the price Abramovich has asked for.
