Jamie Carragher spotted some fantastic defending from Chelsea winger Cole Palmer in last night’s win against Fulham.

The Blues got a much-needed three points in the Premier League on Friday night, brushing aside Fulham at Craven Cottage by a 2-0 scoreline.

Mykhailo Mudryk scored the opener with an excellent left-footed goal, his very first for the club. Soon after, Armando Broja got on the scoresheet himself during his first start for 11 months.

A lot of credit for Chelsea’s second goal of the match belongs to Cole Palmer. The 21-year-old winger pressed the angles superbly well to win back possession and create Broja’s goal.

Sky Sports pundit Carragher was really impressed by Palmer’s defending off the ball in the lead up to Chelsea’s second goal of the contest.

“A big part for me is Cole Palmer’s role in this. I think he’s fantastic because yes, we have seen Mudryk and the position he takes up and the run he makes, but this is a different kind of run,” Carragher told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (8:55am, 2 October)

“Palmer is only new to the team, but the way he closes down and shapes his body to force Tim Ream to make a pass is absolutely brilliant. His manager will be as pleased with Palmer defensively.”

Palmer yet again impressed last night for Chelsea in his just his fifth appearance for the club, which was actually the first start of the season in the Premier League.

The attacking playmaker is very effective when operating in No 10 central positions, but he showed against Fulham his threat when starting from the right wing as well.

Schooled at Manchester City, it’s obvious he’s very intelligent both on and off the ball.

We think there’s so much more to come from this exciting young forward, who’s got the quality to nail down a spot in the XI.
