Jamie Redknapp makes claim about Moises Caicedo straight after top performance for Chelsea vs Man United

Chelsea fans will not have been surprised at what they saw from midfielder Moises Caicedo during yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

It was a dominant performance in the middle of the park from the Ecuador man, who found the net for the first time this season with a stunning strike.

There is clearly a reason why Enzo Maresca has started the 23-year-old in every game this season, despite a number of changes to the midfield.

Yesterday saw Caicedo take to the field alongside Romeo Lavia again. Numerous pundits have already stated how big a fan they are of that pairing in midfield.

Redknapp believes Moises Caicedo is better with Romeo Lavia than Enzo Fernandez

Before, it had been the South American duo of Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the park. Both cost the club more than £100m.

Jamie Redknapp however believes that Chelsea were not at their strongest with that partnership, and now look so much better with Caicedo alongside the young Belgian.

He said to Sky Sports: “I don’t think the balance between him (Caicedo) and Enzo Fernandez is right. He looks much better with Lavia, who has got more pace, more energy to get around the pitch.”

Worrying times for Enzo Fernandez

There are some real worries now for Fernandez about his place in the side. It is now three Premier Lewgue games in a row he has been on the bench for.

Fernandez failed to impress in the Carabao Cup in midweek, likely part of the reason Maresca decided against starting him yesterday.

Given the fact that the club are still looking to protect Lavia following a nightmare spell of injuries since joining, there are still going to be plenty or chances for the World Cup winner to prove himself.

He will need to take a leaf out of Caicedo’s book though if he is to turn his fortunes around. The Ecuador man is absolutely undroppable right now.
