Jason Cundy has shared his excitement about a player in the Chelsea squad he thinks has massive potential moving forward.
When you look at the current Chelsea squad, it’s stacked with so many youngsters with exciting futures ahead of them. Hopefully, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca can get them performing and competing for trophies this season.
Speaking via The Charlotte Observer during the summer, Gary Cahill insisted Chelsea’s young squad does have real ability. It’s just going to take some time for everything to gel together because of the constant change and turmoil.

Jason Cundy discusses Romeo Lavia
Jason Cundy has delivered a glowing verdict when discussing the quality and potential of Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia.
He’s got no problem that Lavia, Wesley Fofana and Cole Palmer have all been omitted from the Blues squad for the Conference League, which means they can’t play in the league phase of the competition. Many will view it as an intelligent way to rest some key individuals in a European tournament where Maresca’s side are already strong favourites.
Cundy told talkSPORT: “Lavia and Fofana between them last season didn’t complete one game. They are going to be an integral part of this team… Lavia looks like he’s going to be a top player this kid. He’s had injuries. I get it [leaving them out of the Conference League squad]. I haven’t got a problem with it.”
Romeo Lavia is a gem
We agree that Chelsea have a future star on their hands with Lavia.
The £45,000-a-week midfielder (Spotrac) has had to be patient since leaving Southampton and moving to Stamford Bridge last summer. Unfortunately, he made just one first-team appearance last season during a miserable first year.
However, fans have seen in glimpses that the Belgian defensive midfielder has huge quality. In particular, the 20-year-old’s tailor-made to play in Enzo Maresca’s side, where he dictates possession from a deeper role.
