Jason Cundy suggests Graham Potter has been a little bit harsh with David Datro Fofana at the start of his Chelsea career.

Fofana, who’s only 20, completed a move to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

The young centre-forward scored 24 goals in 65 games for Norwegian club Molde, but he’s made the big leap to the Chelsea first team this year.

He’s had to be patient during his first couple of months as a Blues player, making just three senior appearances so far.

However, he’s caught the eye with Premier League runouts against Fulham and Southampton. He played in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, too. Incidentally, he’s yet to complete a full 90 minutes.

TalkSPORT pundit Cundy has liked what he’s seen from Fofana in his brief time as a Chelsea player.

In addition, he thinks the 20-year-old was really unlucky to be substituted off at half time by Potter during last month’s defeat to Southampton.

“He played against Manchester City in the FA Cup in a difficult game. I thought he did alright when he came on,” Cundy told talkSPORT.

“I thought against Southampton in the first half he did alright. Potter took him off at half time. He’s only 20. I don’t know what that does to a player. You’re playing up top at Chelsea, first big game at Stamford Bridge, and you get taken off at half time.”

We feel that Fofana is very much a player for the future, like so many of Chelsea’s recruits under the new ownership.

However, he actually deserves more game time this season when you look at where the team finds itself.

The Ivory Coast youngster is a genuine out-and-out striker, so is perhaps a little unfortunate not to get more minutes.

He’s obviously still a raw talent that needs time adapting to a new country, but he’s definitely worth another go in the side because he looks fast, strong and hungry to impress.
