Jason Cundy believes that Chelsea have pulled off a “ridiculously good deal” with the signing of Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez yesterday.

The Blues signed Atletico’s midfielder on a season-long loan deal on Tuesday with an option to buy, which is reportedly at £30million next summer.

Saul is now an exciting member of the Blues squad that fans will be hoping to see in action immediately after the international break.

The 26-year-old has the versatility to play in wide positions, but he’s an all-action central midfielder by trade.

For the Spaniard, it’s about rediscovering the kind of form that made him one of the most attractive midfielders in Europe.

Meanwhile, Chelsea now have serious depth in the centre of the park.

TalkSport pundit Cundy has hailed a transfer masterstroke from Chelsea because he’s a big fan of Saul’s move to Stamford Bridge. He suggests he’s another quality option for manager Thomas Tuchel.

“It’s a ridiculously good deal,” Cundy said about Saul’s transfer to Chelsea.

“We need cover in the middle of the park. N’Golo has had his injury problems and you need to protect him. Chelsea have now got four really brilliant options.”

Saul reinforcing squad eases Chelsea fear

Watching N’Golo Kante go down injured in the previous game against Liverpool caused instant panic from a Chelsea perspective.

Of course, the Frenchman is one of the very best in the business. But, without him there is a serious lack of depth in the midfield, too.

The Blues are now in such a strong position that they can rely on Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Saul during different stages of the year.

It’s going to be a long season with plenty of games if Chelsea achieve aims to compete in every competition, so on-loan midfielder Saul should get his chance to shine.
