Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink gives his backing to under-fire Chelsea star, ‘people think I’m crazy’

The swift nature of Chelsea’s transfer activity this summer has been a welcome break from deadline day frenzy, but has put a number of current players in danger of losing their spot.

The Blues were quick to confirm a deal to sign Liam Delap after his relegation release clause became active, and he has already made his mark on the first team squad during the Club World Cup.

Enzo Maresca will have Joao Pedro available for the quarter-final against Palmeiras, after Chelsea caught Newcastle off guard and beat them to his signature.

Both players have a chance of starting next season in the striker position at Stamford Bridge, and this could cause issues for Nicolas Jackson after two years as the first-choice number nine.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink gives his backing to Nicolas Jackson

The Senegal international has done his chances no favours with recent performances. He has been sent off in two of his last four Chelsea games in all competitions.

Despite being under pressure, former Blues striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has given his backing to Jackson, as opposed to signing another striker for the club.

He said to John Obi Mikel’s ‘Obi One Podcast’: “I love Isak, I think he’s magnificent, then you have Haaland, but you’re not going to get him. Then you have other strikers outside of England.

“Like Osimhen, I know he’s your countryman, but I’m not convinced that he’ll perform in the English Premier League. If it were to be in Spain or Italy, then I’d have said yes, but in the Premier League?, I’m not 100% sure.

“I really like Jackson, and people think I’m crazy, but I like him because he brings a lot of energy into the team, and people don’t see that. The pressing from the front, the work rate, all those things are important for the progress of the team.”

Chelsea’s status on selling Jackson this summer

With talk of signing another attack carrying on, there are no certainties being made around the striker’s future.

After his red card against Flamengo, reports began to state that Jackson was no longer unsellable. Only very few at Stamford Bridge can boast that tag.

Jackson was said to be unhappy at reports that Chelsea could be signing multiple new forwards this summer, and he will be desperate to turn around his fortunes as soon as possible.

The next opportunity to do that will be on Saturday morning when the Blues look to book their place in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup.
