Former Blue Jody Morris was impressed by Thomas Tuchel’s decision to deploy Trevoh Chalobah in midfield during the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday.
The Chelsea manager certainly had to rework his game plans after Reece James’ sending off just before half-time.
It was clear that Chelsea were in for a long 45 minutes in the second half.
Jorginho, who started in all of Chelsea’s three Premier League games so far, understandably looked tired as the home side piled on the pressure.
Unfortunately, Tuchel did not have many defensive midfield options on the bench.
Mateo Kovacic already had to replace injured N’Golo Kante at half-time, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek is not exactly known for his defensive qualities.

Tuchel eventually decided to use Chalobah, whom he had only deployed as a defender prior to this game, in midfield to replace Jorginho.
To be fair, Chalobah spent nearly half of the season at loan club Lorient in midfield positions. He is already familiar with this role in the first place.
However, Morris was still impressed by Tuchel’s confidence in the 22-year-old, considering the situation.

“Big bit of faith in Trev from Tuchel in that position at such a tense time,” the former Chelsea player and coach said on Twitter.
He went on to praise Chelsea’s 10-man side after successfully holding out for a draw in the second half.
The draw result means West Ham stay at the top of the Premier League table, followed by Chelsea and Liverpool, each with seven points from the first three games of the season.
