Joe Cole waxed lyrical about Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham following his performance on the Champions League stage on Wednesday night.

The centre-forward celebrated his 22nd birthday by scoring in a 2-1 away victory against French opponents Lille.

He got on the scoresheet to give the Blues the lead with a calm finish inside the penalty area, but that was soon cancelled out when Lille equalised from a corner.

Willian ended up securing three points for the West London club with his volley that he fired into the ground and it bounced past the goalkeeper.

Abraham is now up to eight goals across all competitions this season in just 10 games, with seven of those strikes coming in the Premier League.

He is a target man thriving in the lead role at Stamford Bridge right now, while keeping senior teammates Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi out of the team right now.

Ex-Blues winger Cole, who now works as a pundit for BT Sport, singled out Abraham for his excellent contribution in Europe and feels he is the total package.

“This kid has got everything and the biggest thing he’s got is his personality, he will keep improving. He’s like I know I’m going to get chances and I’ll put them away,” Cole told television channel BT Sport 2 (2 October).

Abraham certainly doesn’t look a flash in the pan anymore and it seems like Chelsea have found the solution at striker.

He is of course an emerging talent that will get better with more experience, but he’s not letting down Lampard in the senior team and he is someone that should be aiming for 20-plus goals across all competitions this season.

The striker is proving he can score a variety of goals and most importantly is capable of spearheading the attack by himself.
