There was huge cause for celebration at Chelsea yesterday after Levi Colwill signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.

Levi Colwill, who’s been with Chelsea since a boy in the academy, has committed his future to the club.

The 20-year-old defender has penned a new six-year contract with the Blues this week, which was confirmed on Wednesday. It was great to see him follow that up with a fantastic performance in the 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in pre-season.

Colwill celebrated the news of his contract extension with a message on Instagram.

The young centre-back has received responses in the comment section from former Chelsea players such as John Terry and Tino Livramento, who both came through the Blues academy at Cobham in their respective eras.

Terry, who’s now back at Chelsea coaching in the academy, will hope to unearth the next Colwill in the youth ranks.

Meanwhile, Southampton’s Livramento came through at Cobham in the same teams as Colwill.

Both posted love heart emojis to support the 20-year-old after he signed his new deal.

If the Dortmund match was anything to go by, Colwill has done enough to force his way into Chelsea’s starting line-up for the Premier League opener against Liverpool.

It’s great to see him back with the Blues after a great loan spell at Brighton and he’s clearly got eyes on becoming a key figure at the Bridge.

The left-footed centre-half looks mature beyond his years with the way he defends and dictates possession, so there’s a good reason why there’s a lot of hype around him within the game.

The Athletic claimed this week that Chelsea believe Colwill has the potential to grow into one of the world’s elite centre-backs.
