John Terry might have explained why he is not part of Frank Lampard’s coaching staff at Chelsea

John Terry has reacted to Frank Lampard’s Chelsea return and might have explained his absence in the caretaker manager’s coaching team.

As things stand, Lampard has yet to confirm his coaching staff following his Stamford Bridge return.

Chelsea’s official website also still lists Bruno Saltor and Bjorn Hamberg, who joined the club alongside Graham Potter, and Anthony Barry as the three first-team assistant coaches.

However, according to The Athletic, Lampard will bring Chris John and Joe Edwards, who were part of his coaching staff during his previous spell at Chelsea, as well as Ashley Cole, whom he worked with at Everton.

Many Chelsea fans understandably want to see Lampard bring Terry, whose leadership qualities can only benefit the team in general, on board.

However, the former England centre-back has effectively ruled out this possibility.

“Unbelievable news for everyone at Chelsea to have Lamps back,” Terry said about his fellow Chelsea legend on Twitter.

“I know how this works, Frank has his team and if I went into a job I would have mine.

“I won’t have people talk nonsense.

“Lamps is the best player in our history and this is just what we needed.

“Super Frank.”

Terry returned to Chelsea in December 2021 in a coaching consultancy role for the academy side following a spell as an assistant coach at Aston Villa.

It is a part-time role, however, and Terry previously admitted that he did not plan to go back to coaching or managing full-time.

“When I left Villa, that was the aim. I won’t be managing or coaching in the future,” he said on Instagram last year (via the Mirror).

“I turned down three jobs last year and interviewed for two more, which I didn’t get.

“It’s a personal decision that I have come to. I have my role at Chelsea that I love and my family time, which means everything to me. And I get time to enjoy myself.”
