Jorginho insists Chelsea’s mentality must improve

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has enjoyed a much improved season under Frank Lampard. He has gained the support of the majority of the Blues faithful and is now the club’s vice-captain.

Despite this, he is not a sure starter. He was left on the bench for the game against Arsenal a week ago, but came on and completely flipped the game on its head. His presence, dictation and ability to control the game helped Chelsea overturn a one-goal deficit and gain an important three points.

The Blues are still struggling at home though, and against teams in the bottom half of the table. Lampard’s tactics have been questioned, as has the character of this young Chelsea side. As reported by the club website, Jorginho gave an honest view of the situation after the game against the Gunners.

The 28-year-old said: ”We were a bit soft from the beginning and I tried to change that but we also needed to change our minds because we were not fighting enough. Sometimes it can happen and maybe we need to change a little bit our minds and prepare better for the game because when you are in the game, to change your mind is quite difficult.

”You can go on the pitch and you are not ready, and then when you want to change because you realise you are not fighting enough, it’s hard. Against Arsenal, we could change that but sometimes you can’t so maybe we need to prepare ourselves better.”

Lampard will want to correct this problem as soon as possible. The lack of points being picked up at Stamford Bridge is stopping the relatively successful start to the season being an exceptional one.
