Jorrel Hato has sent a clear message to Xabi Alonso ahead of his arrival at Chelsea, with plenty of places up for grabs this summer.
Jorrel Hato’s debut season at Chelsea has been a true rollercoaster of emotions, testing his resilience to the absolute limit. Arriving with massive expectations for £35.5 million, the 20-year-old initially struggled to adapt to the relentless pace of English football, admitting that his first few months in London were incredibly difficult as he battled for consistency under Enzo Maresca.
However, the second half of the campaign brought a big transformation. Hato found his footing, scoring his first goals for the club and putting in assured, standout defensive performances.
Hato even said himself that he was so much happier under Liam Rosenior, and it’s shown in his performances even since his departure.
Now, following a crucial win over Tottenham, Hato has one more chance to make a statement with the onlooking Xabi Alonso set to arrive on July 1st.
If Chelsea have to sell this summer, which ONE are you sacrificing?🤔
Jorrel Hato lays down his marker for Xabi Alonso
Ahead of Xabi Alonso‘s arrival, Hato has emphasised his willingness to play in any formation and position that the Spaniard desires after a swap between a five-back and a four-back recently at Chelsea.
“I think Chelsea made a good decision to get Xabi Alonso.
“I’m excited, I knew him as a player and watched him growing up at Liverpool and at Real Madrid.
“He did very well at Leverkusen too, and they became champions and he was at Madrid.
“He’s a big name so I’m very excited.
“I’ve played in a back three and a back four, for me I don’t care about where I want to play, I just want to play.”
Robin Roefs and Brian Brobbey have both been linked to Chelsea. If you had to sign one, who would it be?
Both men will be looking to down Chelsea on Sunday 👎
If only every Chelsea player had Jorrel Hato’s attitude
Jorrel Hato will be in the good books of the new Chelsea manager, Xabi Alonso, by showing a selfless attitude ahead of the new era.
Emphasising his comfort playing in both a back three and a back four puts the ball in Alonso’s court, stating he simply wants to play and help the team win.
This absolute lack of selfishness and total willingness to adapt to any system is exactly what Alonso demands from his players as he begins building a disciplined, unified squad.
