A Chelsea legend looks set to return to Stamford Bridge as soon as next month as he prepares to take over the role of manager at another Champions League club.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to take the role of Benfica manager, with his first European game in charge being at Stamford Bridge to face the Blues.

The Portuguese manager was sacked by Fenerbache at the start of the season, however looks set to come full circle when he takes a job at the side where he started his managerial career.

Mourinho has been mentioned as a candidate for the Nottingham Forest job before that role went to Ange Postecoglou, although he now has Champions League football to look forward to at his new club.

Since leaving Chelsea the first time, he has gone on to manage Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United, Tottenham, Roma and Fenerbahce, as well as another successful stint in West London.

It wouldn’t be until 2010 when he would face his old side, drawing Chelsea in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. His Inter Milan side would win both legs on the way to winning the whole competition.

Following another stint at Chelsea, it would be a six-year wait before he would face the Blues again, this time in charge of Manchester United.

The Blues, under the rein of Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri, would face Mourinho seven times during this era, including a victory for the Blues in the FA Cup final.

Overall, Chelsea won four of the meetings, losing two and drawing the final one when Ross Barkley scored a last-minute equaliser.

There would be one more win for Mourinho against Chelsea during his time as Spurs manager, coming on penalties in the EFL Cup. He would end up losing three of the five games against the Blues during this time.
