Josh Acheampong is so frustrated with what Chelsea boss did during Reece James absence

Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong does not appear to be too happy at the club right now.

Josh Acheampong‘s contract expires in 2026 and the defender is showing an unwillingness to sign a new one.

Chelsea do not seem to be too happy either. It has been claimed that Chelsea have now barred Acheampong from playing for the first team or the development squad while his contract situation remains unresolved.

The right-back has been in and around Enzo Maresca‘s squad this season, making an appearance in the Carabao Cup last month.

Josh Acheampong not happy with Enzo Maresca

With Chelsea possessing both Reece James and Malo Gusto for the right-back position, Acheampong was never going to be a starter in the current campaign.

However, James missed the start of the season because of injury and only returned to action last weekend, while Gusto has also had to sit out of a couple of matches.

Even so, Maresca has still overlooked Acheampong during the absence of his captain. And according to TBR, that has really frustrated the 18-year-old.

Instead of coming in for the injured James, Acheampong has been forced to watch Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana, two centre-halves, fill in at right-back. It is no surprise, then, that he is not happy.

Real Madrid could be a potential destination for Acheampong if he does end up leaving Stamford Bridge.

Should Enzo Maresca have given Josh Acheampong a chance during Reece James’ absence?

With both James and Gusto missing Chelsea’s wins against Bournemouth and West Ham United, there was definitely room to give Acheampong an opportunity.

Again, though, Maresca decided to go with Disasi and Fofana for those games instead. It is disappointing, given Acheampong’s talent and the fact that he is a natural full-back, unlike those two.

By doing the above, Maresca may have convinced Acheampong not to sign a new contract. There is still time for Chelsea to fix things, but they have to be quick, especially if teams like Real Madrid really are sniffing around.
