With Enzo Maresca only being the head coach at Chelsea, the Italian will not have too much power when it comes to deciding who stays and who goes.
Rather, that will fall down to Chelsea‘s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
They are overseeing Chelsea’s transfer business, while Enzo Maresca focuses on coaching his squad.
This summer, Stewart and Winstanley have brought in the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Tosin Adarabioyo.
They have also got rid of players and could be about to offload another one. Lewis Hall was recently sold to Newcastle United after an initial loan spell there last season. Hall had some struggles at Newcastle following his move to St James’ Park, something he has spoken about recently.

Enzo Maresca did not make decision to leave out Trevoh Chalobah
On Monday, it emerged that Trevoh Chalobah would not be travelling to the United States for Chelsea’s pre-season tour.
Chelsea have plenty of centre-back options, which seems to have cost Chalobah a place in Maresca’s squad.
However, according to journalist Simon Phillips, the decision to leave him out of the tour was not made by the new Chelsea manager.
On X, Phillips wrote: “The decision to leave Trevoh Chalobah off the pre-season tour did not come from Enzo Maresca, you can be sure of that.”
The likelihood, then, is that Stewart and Winstanley are trying to push the 25-year-old out of the club, or at least one of them is.
Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley could sign Filip Jorgensen
On top of potentially selling Chalobah, Chelsea’s two sporting directors could bring in a new goalkeeper before the transfer window closes.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are trying to sign Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.
Jorgensen was in top form for Villarreal last season so could be a good addition for the Blues. As per FBref, the 22-year-old made 143 saves in La Liga during the 2023/24 campaign, the most in the division.
However, Chelsea desire a keeper with great distribution. That is what they are looking for in a goalie right now.
