Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes that Chelsea are having a decent season so far, while also giving opposition manager Frank Lampard big credit for the job he is doing at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are preparing to face Liverpool on Tuesday night in the FA Cup fifth round, which is a competition that provides the club’s best chance of winning some silverware this campaign.

Lampard’s side go into the cup fixture off the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, as well as a 3-0 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of a last 16 tie.

But runaway Premier League Liverpool were beaten for the first time this season in the league over the weekend against Watford and have looked slightly more vulnerable than usual.

Klopp has made some positive comments about Chelsea under Lampard, as the fans enjoy the first season with the club legend in charge.

“Super job,” Klopp responded when asked about the job Lampard is doing at Chelsea, as quoted by Liverpool’s official Youtube account.

“I like the project a lot. Having this amount of sensational young players is really nice and they are all ready to play Premier League obviously, so they are doing well so far.

“The way they go looks really promising and Frank is doing an incredible job. To deal with defeats is the biggest challenge for all of us, but I thought so far they did really brilliant.”

Chelsea may be having an extremely turbulent season so far, but are still fourth in the Premier League and it can still be a success depending on how they finish in the remaining months.

There is no doubt they have to defend better when they welcome Liverpool to West London, especially if they opt to name a strong XI for the fixture.

Lampard should be selecting a strong side himself that have every chance of progressing to the next round and it’s an important game for the club’s season.

It’s clear that this is a transitional season for Lampard, but a cup success and a top four finish in the league still have to be a strong target.
