Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that former Brazil manager Tite could be a shock contender for the Chelsea job.

He told the ‘LondonsFirst podcast’ that the 61-year-old will certainly be one of the names considered for the permanent job.

Frank Lampard is currently in charge of the Blues on an interim basis, tasked with trying to bring the Champions League back to West London for the third time.

However, it is widely expected that there will be a new figure in charge at the end of the season to lead Chelsea forwards.

Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann have both been tipped for the permanent job. Both have reportedly entered talks over the role.

However, Jacobs has claimed it can’t be ruled out that a shock contender like Tite could be handed the role.

He said: “Because they will speak to seven. There will be some surprises who are not necessarily being considered at this point or are front runners but will creep into the conversations.

“That’s where some surprise names may materialise, out of due diligence. Chelsea will want Premier League experience and will therefore want to talk to managers who know the league, because it may give them some perspective or a yardstick against some leading candidates.

“That’s where Marco Silva with the Spurs job has come into the mix. I don’t think Chelsea will end up speaking to Silva themselves but Tite is one to keep an eye on for sure.

“And then there will be a few other younger, up and coming managers who Chelsea just want to touch base with even if it’s not for the vacancy now, because they think that in the future it may well be a job that suits them.”

The Brazilian caught attention a while ago for explaining how bad Thiago Silva is for football, although it was only because of how good he will be when he becomes a coach himself.

With a project to be carried out over a number of years at the club, it is unlikely Tite is offered the role on a long-term basis.
