Koulibaly suggests there was another Chelsea defender who really impressed him after Reece James’s brilliance

Kalidou Koulibaly has taken to Instagram to praise Trevoh Chalobah following his performance of the bench against AC Milan last night.

The Englishman was a first half substitute for the injured Wesley Fofana, who was forced off with what seems a bad injury to his knee.

It was an unfortunate end to what looked to be a dream evening for the young Frenchman, who had scored his first goal for the club earlier in the piece.

Chalobah didn’t put a foot wrong in his display, with Milan hardly being afforded the opportunity to pose any threat to the Blues in the crucial game in the group stage.

Alongside fellow Englishman Reece James’s dominance, the Blues stood firm in what was actually a very important victory for the club.

Koulibaly impressed with Chalobah

Chelsea couldn’t leave Stamford Bridge with anything less than three points last night if they had realistic ambitions of qualifying from their group in the competition they were victorious in just over a year ago.

The Blues did just that, with everyone on the pitch performing when the stakes were raised to the highest they’ve been during this campaign.

Even off the bench, Chalobah looked like a commanding presence, with Koulibaly referring to him as a ‘beast’ on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Instagram post.

With Fofana’s unfortunate injury, Chalobah could be set for a run in the side and an opportunity to continue where he left off last night in impressing new manager Graham Potter in his first appearance since he took over.

Reports had claimed that Potter was considering utilising the 23-year-old at the base of his midfield, with his ability on the ball combining with the defensive strengths he has learned whilst perfecting his craft as a defender offering more licence to his fellow attackers.

While this could certainly be a future option, especially with the likes of Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic operating in box-to-box roles, he could instead have the chance to establish himself as an important member of the Blues backline for the next few weeks.
