Chelsea have struggled against several teams in the bottom half of the table this season. French defender Kurt Zouma has suggested that the reason behind these struggles is a lack of motivation.
Lampard’s side have been struggling to break teams down, and are conceding sloppy goals. They seem able to perform exceptionally well against sides like Tottenham and Arsenal but falter against sides lower down the table. The Blues have lost against Everton, Southampton, Bournemouth, and West Ham in recent weeks.

Defender Zouma has now said that the Chelsea team can struggle to find motivation for the games against opposition sat lower in the table. As reported by The Sun, the 25-year-old said: ”For the big matches, the motivation is already there… for the other matches at home, maybe we are less motivated.”
It seems a strange admission to make, but by identifying the problem, perhaps Zouma will help to solve it. This young Chelsea side will need to find motivation for every single game if they are to be successful. The Premier League is a competition where anyone can beat anyone, and teams cannot become complacent.

Lampard will be keen to change the mindset of the Chelsea camp. The Blues are currently sat four points clear in fourth place. However, if they had won the games against teams languishing near the relegation zone, the club would be in second spot and the nearest challengers to Liverpool in the title race.
