Chelsea have desperately missed the composure and defensive ability of Levi Colwill throughout the 2025/26 season, with it so far unclear when he is going to return.
Colwill picked up an ACL injury on the first day of pre-season, after being given just a couple of weeks off from action over the summer.
Chelsea’s participation and triumph in the Club World Cup saw them hardly get a break, and injuries have impacted the likes of Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and Liam Delap throughout the season.

Liam Rosenior not giving up on Levi Colwill playing for Chelsea this season
This has meant that Liam Rosenior has been unable to utilise the England international since he took over the club, and has therefore struggled to settle on a back two.
Rosenior was asked by journalist Bobby Vincent whether Colwill will feature at any point for Chelsea this season, with the manager admitting he was hopeful this would happen.
He said: “I’m hopeful. I’m hopeful because he’s an outstanding player. Again, no time frames. You have to take these long-term injuries day by day. And also, it’s not about when he comes back, it’s about him staying fit when he is back.”
Rushing players back from injury has unfortunately been a bit of a theme at Chelsea over the years, with many believing this has been a catalyst to Reece James and Lavia’s woes.
Colwill is one of the players at Chelsea who is looking for a new contract in the near future, giving him even more incentive to return to action as soon as possible.

Chelsea made it their mission to sign a new centre-back in January, with their efforts to bring in Jeremy Jacquet not successful.
