Gabriel Agbonlahor has singled out versatile Chelsea forward Kai Havertz for missing what should have been an easy chance in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leeds United.
The Blues, as they have been in the last few months, still had a hard time converting the chances they created in the game.
Fortunately for Chelsea, Wesley Fofana’s headed goal was enough to secure three points, but they still missed three big chances in the game.
Havertz missed one in which he could not get the ball past Leeds’ Illan Meslier after Raheem Sterling’s perfectly weighted pass put him in a one-on-one situation.
Agbonlahor was clearly not impressed.
“Chelsea were there for the taking. They weren’t great,” the former England international told talkSPORT.
“They were better than they were recently but still…
“I think Havertz, that one-on-one he had in the first half… it’s like watching me go through 1v1, wasn’t it?
“It wasn’t convincing but they [Chelsea] would see it as ‘we won 1-0’ and it takes the pressure off [Graham Potter[ a little bit.”
Havertz’s miss, Joao Felix’s hitting the crossbar (again)… this could have been a much easier game than it was for Potter’s side.
They may not be able to rely on another set-piece goal when facing Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, so unless they start scoring these big chances, this could be a one-off win in an abysmal run.
