‘Looks a class above’: Some fans rave about Saturday performance of their Chelsea loanee

Chelsea loanee Danny Drinkwater played 90 minutes for Reading on Saturday afternoon – and some of their fans on Twitter raved about his performance.

Drinkwater, 31, has moved away this season on his fourth different loan spell away from Stamford Bridge.

The central midfielder has dropped down to the Championship with Reading, who he made his debut for last weekend. His first start for the Royals came today during a 1-0 home win over Middlesbrough.

The Chelsea-owned man has started his new loan with two wins out of two and it’s about getting back to playing regular senior minutes again.

His struggles in London are well documented since his transfer from Leicester City in 2017, so he’s now become part of the loan army that constantly exists at Chelsea.

If Drinkwater can get back to anywhere near his best, he should be a real force in the second tier. He did earn three senior England caps in 2016.

Reading fans already love Drinkwater

It would be one of the great comeback stories if Drinkwater were to ever play a competitive game for Chelsea again, so you’d suspect this season he’s playing for his future.

He remains a technically sound midfield that should be able to control games much easier in the Championship.

Reading are a team that will hope to be around the play-off spots this year and they look like a good fit for him.

A selection of their supporters on social media believe he was excellent on Saturday against Boro.

Here are some Reading fans praising Drinkwater:
