‘Lost’: Alan Hudson worried that 20-year-old starlet doesn’t understand his position at Chelsea

Heralded former Chelsea midfielder Alan Hudson told Caught Offside that Callum Hudson-Odoi looked ‘lost’ in his role under Thomas Tuchel.

It has certainly been a season of change at Chelsea.

They have gone from Premier League table toppers to challengers for the top four, with two different coaches sitting in the dugout.

This alternating atmosphere cannot be easy for the players to climatise, although most should be used to the managerial merry-go-round at Stamford Bridge.

Hudson-Odoi has been one of those to benefit from Tuchel’s overhaul, thanks to discovering a new position at right-wing back.

He’s started all but two games for Chelsea’s new coach after struggling to assert himself in Frank Lampard’s side.

But Hudson isn’t sold on the 20-year-old’s revitalisation and claims he would have been better off with a club that has shown great interest in him for a while.

“Hudson-Odoi would have been better let go to Bayern Munich,” he admitted.

“He seems to be a player who is lost between defence and attack.

“When you ask for players to play in strange roles, something they’ve never done, you have to expect they get lost.”

Bayern have been admirers of Hudson-Odoi for a long time, with Chelsea even rejecting a bid from them last October.

The talented forward may have been eager to hop foot out of London after falling out of favour with Lampard.

A host of attacking signings came in last summer, providing a competition to Hudson-Odoi that he was unlikely to win.

But Tuchel’s inauguration offered a life line to him and many other members of Chelsea’s squad.

The Chelsea Chronicle View

I know Hudson likes to take a quite critical view on Chelsea proceedings, so I take everything he says with a pinch of salt.

Personally, I think Hudson-Odoi looks very comfortable at wing-back.

Considering he’d never played there before, he’s settled in nicely.
