‘Lost total belief’: TalkSPORT pundit thinks Chelsea player’s confidence is completely ruined

Tony Cascarino thinks the confidence of Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku is completely ruined right now after watching his latest performance last night.

Chelsea were beaten 3-1 yesterday at home to Real Madrid in the first leg of a Champions League quarter-final, which means there’s a huge job to do in next week’s second leg out in Spain.

Lukaku, 28, entered the action during the second half to try help the Blues reduce the two-goal deficit.

Unfortunately, the Belgian striker missed two headed chances to perfectly sum up what it’s been like for him recently.

He’s lost his starting position to forward Kai Havertz, who scored again last night, and can’t have too many complaints about not starting.

The real frustration for the Belgian forward will be that he got two real opportunities at goal, especially a close-range attempt that he headed just wide of the post.

TalkSPORT pundit Cascarino claims Lukaku’s confidence looks shot right now.

“I really don’t know what Romelu Lukaku is at the moment. I’m looking at a player that’s lost total belief in his game,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

Chelsea ST position even clearer now

Last night’s match was further vindication as to why Havertz is the starting centre-forward in this team right now over Lukaku.

Havertz, 22, took his opportunity to score in the first half with a brave header. Also, he ran his socks off all night and was a bright spark during a really disappointing result.

In contrast, Lukaku couldn’t find the clinical touch when his side needed him most.

His all-round game in Thomas Tuchel’s system has regularly been questioned, so he’s got no chance of breaking back into the XI if he can’t put away his chances.
