‘Love it’: 23-year-old Chelsea player now says he’s enjoying proving everyone wrong

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher says he loves a challenge and proving people wrong.

Conor Gallagher‘s Chelsea career looked to be over in the summer after the club decided to bring in both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

However, the 23-year-old is proving to be a survivor and recently told the Daily Mirror and other outlets that he relishes a good challenge.

Gallagher has been a key player under Mauricio Pochettino so far this season, starting in all nine of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures.

Gallagher does not seem to be fazed at all by the presence of Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and the other midfield options Pochettino currently has at his disposal.

“Yeah, I love it,” the Englishman was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror when speaking about having to prove a point at Stamford Bridge.

“I think most times in my career I’ve had a point to prove, and I love the challenge and I always want new challenges and targets to set myself. So I just want to carry on what I’m doing now and help Chelsea climb up the table.”

Right now, Gallagher does not look like just a mere number in Chelsea’s squad, playing because of injuries.

He is starting games on merit and is actually bringing something to the table.

For example, as per WhoScored, the England international is making the second most amount of tackles per league game in Pochettino’s squad (three).

He has also been able to chip in with a couple of assists. It was not exactly a killer ball that set up Mykhailo Mudryk’s goal against Arsenal over the weekend, but they all count at the end of the day.

Overall, Gallagher performed well in that London derby, with Gary Neville admitting that he loved the way Pochettino used him and Cole Palmer on the day.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Lavia and Christopher Nkunku both return to full fitness. But if Gallagher keeps playing how he has been, then Pochettino will not be able to just discard him like that.
