‘Makes sense’: Some Chelsea fans buzzing over report about 24-year-old who Tuchel called ‘brave’

Chelsea supporters were over the moon to hear that Andreas Christensen might be in line for a renewed contract following his impressive recent form, according to the Telegraph.

The 24-year-old has rarely put a foot wrong since he stepped in for Thiago Silva last month.

Christensen would only have a year left on his current deal come the end of this season, but it appears Chelsea are keen to open talks over an extension of his contract.

A majority of Blues fans were in unison with their response to this development.

It would certainly be just reward for a player who’s hushed many of his critics in the past four weeks.

Aside from the 1-1 draw with Southampton, Christensen has started every game following that fixture away to Tottenham Hotspur where Silva hobbled off injured.

In this period, Chelsea have conceded just one goal, whilst facing the likes of Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool.

A lot of this can be attributed to Christensen’s improved form.

In the past, he’d be highlighted as a weak link in the defensive line.

He always had the passing ability, but was often bemoaned for lacking the characteristics of an old-school, all tackling, all heading central defender.

This is no longer a valid argument.

Christensen has shown both sides of this game under Thomas Tuchel and seems to have matured at an alarming rate.

His manager even described him as ‘brave’ and ‘strong in individual challenges’ after Chelsea’s recent 1-0 over Liverpool (Chelsea website).

Perhaps the highest compliment you can give the Danish international is that he’s keeping out Silva, who has now recovered from his injury.

I think if I had seen this story a year ago, I would’ve closed down the tab in a rage.

I’ve been one of Christensen’s doubters for some time. However, he’s certainly proved me wrong and I’m all for it.

If anyone in that Chelsea dressing room deserves a new contract right now, it’s him.
