Marco Palestra has finally been announced by Chelsea and his first interview gave supporters plenty to think about.
Chelsea have officially announced the arrival of Italian international defender Marco Palestra from Atalanta in a deal worth over £47 million.
After claiming the Serie A Defender of the Year award following a loan campaign at Cagliari, he has committed to a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, keeping him at the club until 2033.
Marking the first acquisition of the Xabi Alonso era, Palestra revealed the huge role that the Spaniard had in joining after making a statement on his Instagram account.

“We have so many talented players here, a very strong squad and manager in Xabi. He has spoken to me about how he wants us to play, which is exciting, and we can’t wait to compete in the Premier League.”

When Enzo Fernandez signed from Benfica, he made it clear that he did not think twice about the move, stating, “When Chelsea came along, I didn’t hesitate. I wanted to come at all costs.” Palestra mirrored this exact conviction by admitting that he “felt the positive energy” the moment Chelsea called, instantly pivoting away from Inter Milan just as Enzo rejected other European giants.
Additionally, both players willingly chose transitions over immediate stability. Fernandez arrived during a massive squad overhaul but publicly backed the board’s long-term restructuring. Similarly, Palestra is arriving during a major managerial shift, but has immediately embraced the rebuild under Xabi Alonso.
