Marcus Bettinelli and Reece James have been talking about the current Chelsea squad, coming to a conclusion that sounds very promising for supporters.

Chelsea have made so many changes to their squad in recent transfer windows, while the last two seasons have not exactly gone to plan for the club.

While the previous campaign was not the worst, with the Blues finishing in sixth, they still missed out on Champions League qualification.

And it was the same story the season before that after Chelsea finished 12th in the Premier League table.

Pep Guardiola thinks Enzo Maresca will be successful, but only time will tell if the Italian can actually take them back into the top four.

Marcus Bettinelli and Reece James discuss Chelsea squad

After all of the changes and upheaval at Chelsea over the past couple of years, captain Reece James thinks the members of the squad are now quite close.

Marcus Bettinelli had a chat with his skipper about it and shared details of their conversation on Chelsea’s official website.

“When I look at this squad, Reece and I were talking the other day and we were saying it definitely feels like this is the closest the group has felt over the last couple of years,” the goalkeeper said.

“We have experienced some really tough times over the last two years, some really bad moments, and I think we had a good season last season, we finished well and now the new head coach has come in and we are all really enjoying his ideas and the way he wants us to play.”

James was part of the Chelsea defence that got battered by Erling Haaland and Manchester City over the weekend. Maresca told James Chelsea needed to change things after conceding their second goal.

Chelsea squad’s goals

Going into the new season, this Chelsea squad will be aiming to finish in the top four after missing out on Champions League qualification the last two seasons.

That has to be the ultimate goal for Maresca and his men. Being in the Conference League as well, they should also be winning at least one trophy in the new campaign.

Chelsea are likely to bring in a new striker before the transfer window closes to help them with all of that.

At present, Chelsea are targeting both Samu Omorodion and Victor Osimhen. If they can get the latter, top four should be no problem. The Nigerian should be able to add more firepower to the team.
