Martin Keown has just made an interesting claim about Chelsea star Cole Palmer.

Despite all the talent in the current Chelsea squad, Cole Palmer is still firmly under the spotlight when it comes to anything at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old attacker has carried last season’s form into this year, scoring seven goals and creating five assists in nine Premier League appearances this campaign.

In fairness, Blues manager Enzo Maresca deserves big credit for deploying Palmer in the central number 10 position, where he’s free to roam and knit play together. It’s earned him praise from all over for his impact in Chelsea colours.

Speaking via talkSPORT last month, Wayne Rooney said Palmer has been “sensational” since the start of last season.

Martin Keown full of praise for Cole Palmer

Martin Keown has delivered glowing praise on Chelsea’s Palmer for what he’s doing on a football pitch.

Interestingly, he stated that the left-footed playmaker is “by far” the best player at the club right now, something we’d tend to agree with.

Keown told talkSPORT: “Some of his passes are obscene. This player has got everything in front of him. This cannot be a good decision to have allowed him to leave Manchester City… His vision, his execution, it’s all there. It’s fantastic to see…

“They’ve spent a bucket full of money. He is by far their best player, among what is a very good squad of players. He’s standing out every week.”

Who else makes Chelsea tick?

Without doubt, Palmer is the glue for this Chelsea side, really driving them forward. If he’s in the mood, he’s capable of winning any single game for them with his special talent.

However, we’d put forward a couple of other names that are becoming more and more crucial in the starting XI.

First of all, Nicolas Jackson appears to be growing in stature every week because of these consistently impressive performances in leading the line.

In nine league appearances this season, the central striker has six goals and three assists. On top of scoring, the 23-year-old frontman is showing really intelligent and tidy work in his all-round game.

In addition, Moises Caicedo, 22, is a Rolls-Royce central midfielder bossing matches.
